“I do all genres of photography, but my passion lies with the night sky photography, this can involve some very long nights driving to a dark sky area in order to eliminate as much light pollution as possible or chasing the possibility of an Aurora within Scotland – which happens more frequently than most people think.”
“Scotland’s Sky At Night” by Brian Knight was exhibited at Fire Station Creative in September 2015.
“I do all genres of photography, but my passion lies with the night sky photography, this can involve some very long nights driving to a dark sky area in order to eliminate as much light pollution as possible or chasing the possibility of an Aurora within Scotland – which happens more frequently than most people think.”
Initially gaining interest in photography through a Christmas gift from his wife, Brian decided to employ the use of books and video CDs in order to further develop his skills. After ten years of steadily growing his knowledge and understanding of the subject Brian decided he wanted to find employment in the field and concluded that in order to do so he would have to possess a formal qualification. And so, at the age of 50, Brian began his studies at Carnegie College in Fife, going on to achieve a HNC and HND in photography. However, Brian was initially recommended to not pursue his preferred area of Astro/Night photography:
“My tutor advised me that this was a pretty specialised area and that I might want to rethink the idea. I had seen many of starry night sky’s, the Milky way and such in magazines and books and wanted to try and take some of my own and so against the advice of my tutor I decided this is what I wanted to do.”
Since graduating Brian has held three solo exhibitions taking place in Glenrothes, Lochgelly and Dunfermline.
